There are plenty of stories about people relating to “man’s best friend.”

I came across a wonderful story about a man and a cat that’s so amazing, it’s being turned into a movie.  

The man is a London street performer and heroin addict named James Bowen.  James' journey to recovery began with the help of an injured, feral cat named Bob that he took in and cared for like it was his child. 

Through some good fortune, James turned his journey with Bob into a bestselling book called A Street Cat Named Bob, and after selling a quarter of a million copies, Bowen and Bob are now taking their story to the silver screen. 

James thought he was saving a cat's life; he had no idea that Bob would return the favor.

Even if you're not an animal lover, I pray you're moved by the reason I chose to share this with you: it doesn't matter what inspires you; finding what moves you makes all the difference between taking up space on this earth and actually LIVING life.

For many years people have been saying that “one day”, a storm is going to hit the New York City area and bring destruction like no one has ever seen.  And many of us kept saying things like, “Yeah, but that one day isn’t happening in my lifetime”; or “That one day stuff is nonsense.  That’ll never happen here.”

Well, “one day” arrived in a major way this week.

Hurricane Sandy has pretty much devastated the tri state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in a fashion that hasn’t been seen in more than a couple of lifetimes.  Think about that for a second.

There are people who will be without power for 10-14 days, probably longer.  I’m among that group, and with my radio job, I essentially ended up locked in lower Manhattan for 3 days with no power there either following the storm.  None of this has been an ounce of fun, but radio has reminded me constantly just how fortunate I am.  As the source of information for millions during this trying time, all of us who are on the air, whether at music or talk stations are doing our best to inform and uplift our brothers and sisters who are truly suffering in Sandy’s wake.

To see the images I’ve seen and hear the stories I’ve heard and had to talk about on the air is a great reminder of that old saying that no matter how bad you’ve got it, someone else always has it tougher.

I saw that pic at the top about 10 minutes ago on Facebook, and it prompted me to really want to talk to you (hope my boss at the station doesn’t mind! LOL)  about the meaning of it; at least, as I interpret it this morning based on my experiences the last few days.  I wish I could do a video, but I don’t have that capability at the station and we’re running on a twice repaired in the last few days generator, so I pray that my words will suffice.

How many people who’ve been talking about their hopes, plans and dreams and using the phrase “one day” now may have to shelve those thoughts indefinitely?  How many people perished as a result of this storm who had hopes that they clung to so tightly of following their heart “one day”, only for that day to never come?

Read that quote at the top again.  Please.

How much longer are you willing to put off those hopes and dreams; the things that give us incentive, inspiration and LIFE for another day?

If you wait too long, “one day” may never arrive.  It’s up to you to take steps to assure that “one day” isn’t just a dream, but your reality!

According to a new study, kids who get more sleep at night – even a little bit – end up behaving better in school.

Researchers found that small changes in daily life that allow children to add about a half hour of sleep end up helping in a big way.

Parents can get their kids to sleep earlier by not allowing electronics in the bedroom and by winding the kids down a half-hour to an hour before bedtime.

If you were glued to the tv watching the Yankees (ugh), the Jets and Giants, or out enjoying yourself, you might have missed these items, so I'll catch you up!

The space shuttle Endeavour finally made it to its final resting place, after traveling in slow-motion through the streets of Los Angeles all weekend.

The retired shuttle made it to Exposition Park, where it will be displayed at the California Science Center beginning on October 30th, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

It left Los Angeles International Airport before daybreak on Friday to begin the 12-mile trip and it took even longer than expected. On Saturday, it was five hours late for one stop, where an estimated crowd of 165,000 waited to get a glance of the spaceship!

Felix Baumgartner set two world records on Sunday, becoming the first skydiver to break the speed of sound by jumping from 128,000 feet in southeastern New Mexico.

He also set a record on the way up by rising 24 miles up in the air in a capsule attached to a large helium balloon before making the leap. The Austrian daredevil known as "Fearless Felix" traveled as fast as Mach 1.24 at one point, which is well past the speed of sound.

For the stunt, he wore a space suit, helmet and a parachute, and battled low temperatures, thin atmosphere and a possible loss of consciousness.

Paula Abdul will be sitting with the judges on Monday’s Dancing With the Stars. Len, Carrie Ann & Bruno rarely let anyone else on the panel, though Abdul is no stranger to the set. Her old show American Idol filmed on a nearby sound stage, and Paula told The Hollywood Reporter, “I've been sneaking into the show for years, and now I get to be a guest judge. It's a marriage made in dancing heaven."

Working the 3rd shift is no picnic, is it?  While we're all grateful to be working, especially in this economy, being on this backwards schedule has some side effects.  

For instance, I lose track of times and dates like never before.  The day can really get away from me, and before I know it, it's time to get some rest!  

I like to cook just about every day and bring my own meals; it saves a few bucks and when I make my food, I eat a lot healthier than I would if I bought something on my way in.

But sometimes, things happen and you arrive at the job for the overnight shift empty handed.  

The cool thing about being in a 24/7 town like NYC is that it you don't have to starve!  If you work in the 5 boroughs (or anywhere, really), there are sites like Grubhub where you can search for places that deliver all night long!  You never know when sites like that will come in handy!

It's important to make a good first impression, especially on a first date. Avoid these 5 mistakes that can turn a man off, and prevent you from getting a second date with your dream guy:

1. Talking too much: Nervousness can cause people to talk nonstop. Remember to take a breath and make sure you are letting him talk and asking him questions about himself.
    
2. Not saying enough: being quiet is as much as a turnoff as talking too much! Don't make the date uncomfortable, and let him get to know you ... that's why he asked you out in the first place!
    
3. Expecting him to pay: Chances are he is going to foot the bill, but an offer to go dutch will make him feel good about your intentions.
    
4. Bragging and namedropping: This wouldn't impress you and it definitely won't impress him!
    
5. Coming on too strong: Even if there is strong sexual chemistry between the two of you, take it slow. Jumping into bed too quickly might not be the way to his heart. You're worth waiting for!

While we're on the subject of first dates, was Robert Pattinson on one the other night here in the city?  TMZ is wondering, given they have photographs of Rob with a mystery blonde at a bar last Saturday. According to eyewitnesses, the Twilight star was cozying up to the woman for hours and at one point even put his arm around her.
