My grandparents used to head south for the winter and they would get together with the same group of people every year, a lot of them veterans like my grandfather. They would have such a good time playing in the sun and relaxing. It became like an annual summer camp for adults and they always came back glowing from sun and fun.
What are your plans this time of year after the holidays, in the thick of winter? This winter I took my family to the snow. We bundled up for a day of sledding in the mountains. It was a particularly fun experience this year because I have two new family members who have never seen snow. My 4-year-old daughter, baby Delilah, and our friend, Al Hassan, are both recently home from Ghana, West Africa -- where it’s about 100 degrees right now!
As you can imagine, the cold has been a shock for them, but watching them play in the snow was so much fun! We did the usual: snow angels, snowball fights, sledding and tubing. And when it was time to pack up and go home, Delilah screamed as I was loading her into her car seat because she did not want to go! Okay, so most of the day was fun.
Do you love this time of year or loathe it? Do you make any special plans or have any winter traditions such as fleeing the scene or perhaps you just like to stay inside and snuggle up to someone you love? That’s perfectly okay. Or maybe you live somewhere that doesn’t get cold and you’re still in shorts in February. If you’re playing volleyball in the sand, I want to visit your town!
Write to me and tell me how you spend this
