NJ Voters Divided on Christie’s Job Performance
Posted Thursday, August 7th 2014 @ 7am

Voters in New Jersey are split over whether Governor Chris Christie is doing a good job.  A new Quinnipiac University poll shows 49 percent approve of his job performance, while 47 percent disapprove.

Christie’s favorability rating is divided evenly at 47 percent.

"People used to talk about Gov. Christopher Christie's appeal to independent voters, but many of those voters now have second thoughts," said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Sixty eight percent of voters say Christie has strong leadership qualities.  But only 46 percent say he’s honest and trustworthy, while 47 percent believe he cares about their needs and problems.

"The 'Jersey Guy' image that Gov. Christie has cultivated had earned him national attention as a tough guy," Carroll added. ¬†"But now his neighbors are divided on whether he cares about them.‚ÄĚ

Carroll said the Bridgegate scandal has fallen from the headlines but Christie’s approval ratings haven’t recovered.  He said the scandal has eroded people’s confidence in the governor’s honesty.
