Bratton Vowing Crackdown on Drones

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is going to crackdown on the use of drones.

After a police helicopter was nearly hit by the George Washington Bridge this week, Bratton said the situation will be treated “very seriously” by the administration.

According to the New York Post, the commissioner said he’s concerned about the terrorism component of drones, as well as those “joyriding with the drone.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio said it’s important they get a message out to the public about the standards.

“The Mayor’s Office will certainly work with the NYPD to make very clear what constitutes unacceptable behavior, but I’d like to disclose a common sense: no citizen should interfere with the work of the NYPD,” he said.

Two people were arrested this week after allegedly flying a drone near the George Washington Bridge, nearly hitting an NYPD helicopter.  They were charged with reckless endangerment.
